You Need These Women

I heard a statement recently about how women can’t go home for 10 years to be with their kids and expect to return and have a voice in the board room, or something to that effect.

While there was a greater context to the conversation and I deeply respect the women who were having the conversation, it just didn’t sit right with me.

I’ve pondered it for a few days.

What I’ve come back with is, those are the exact people you should have in the board room!

Why?

Those women who’ve gone home for 10 years have a perspective and skills you need.

1. Financial Genius.

The can operate a household on a shoestring budget.

2. Negotiation Skills.

They have to negotiate with tiny terr or ists.

3. Self Discipline.

They show up everyday and overcome obstacles.

4. Solutions.

They find ways to make it all work.

5. People skills.

They can reel in a crowd and meet individual needs with the bigger picture in mind.

6. Experience.

They have a vast plethora of experiences and insight into what motivates and appeals to people. They know what works and what doesn’t.

7. Insight.

They see what happens on the inside and provide direction and leadership.

8. Oversight.

They can oversee people and operations for maximum production.

9. Foresight.

They can see what is coming and be prepared for peace and chaos.

10. Development.

They have the capacity to build people and programs.

11. Protection.

They can fight off a wolf with their bare hands to protect those in their care.

Never underestimate the power of women. Especially those who’ve gone home.
